MANILA, Philippines – After nearly two decades, Cebu is again hosting Association of Southeast Asian Nations events, as the Philippines is this year’s ASEAN chair. The ASEAN Foreign Ministers Retreat (AMM) and the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) will both be held in Cebu City. This will be the first meeting of the ASEAN foreign ministers this year to begin discussions on the Philippines’ priorities as ASEAN chair under the theme, “Navigating Our Future, Together.” “The year 2026 will witness the commencement of the implementation of ASEAN 2045: Our Shared Future, ASEAN’s 20-year vision document as well as the Strategic Plans for ASEAN’s pillars of work,” the ASEAN Secretariat said in a statement on January 25. Central Visayas police said they are fully prepared to secure the ASEAN events, and are in close coordination with security agencies. Around 9,000 police have been deployed while a region-wide gun ban is in effect until January 31.
