Roblox commits to keeping kids safe as PH threatens restrictions

MANILA, Philippines – Roblox has expressed its commitment to protect Filipino children who use the platform, after Philippine government agencies warned of restrictions or a ban on Roblox in the country. The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) had arlier urged Roblox to explain why it should not be restricted in the Philippines following increased worries about children’s safety on the platform, citing issues of potential sexual exploitation and radicalization via the platform. The DOCT and CICC originally gave a 30-day ultimatum for Roblox to explain itself and comment on the matter, though it has shortened that timeframe to 15 days as of March 24. Must Read DICT puts Roblox on notice following worries about child safety A Roblox spokesperson, in an emailed statement to Rappler on Thursday, March 26, said Roblox shares the DICT’s “commitment to helping keep children in the Philippines safe online.” The statement added, “Roblox has advanced safeguards and robust safety policies and processes to help protect players to monitor for harmful content and communications.” According to the spokesperson, the game platform has “filters designed to block the sharing of personal information, our chat features don’t allow user-to-user image or video sharing, and age checks are required before anyone has access to chat.
