MANILA, Philippines – The House justice committee continues deliberations on the impeachment cases filed against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday, February 4, with a promise to hold a vote after the day’s discussions. The panel is evaluating whether the two complaints endorsed separately by Pusong Pinoy Representative Jett Nisay and the three-member Makabayan bloc are sufficient in substance. The committee ruled on Tuesday, February 3, that it will check the authenticity of the documents attached in the petitions to determine whether there is factual basis to continue the proceedings. If either complaint passes the second test, the committee will proceed with notifying Marcos about the complaint and will give him time to respond to the allegations. Both complaints cited Marcos’ role in the public works scandal and the overall budget mess, but Nisay’s petition also wants the President removed from office for allegedly enabling the arrest of former president Rodrigo Duterte who was subsequently brought to The Hague, and the President’s alleged drug addiction Bookmark this page to watch the livestream of the hearing at 10 am on Wednesday. – Rappler.com
